The morphology and dynamics of polymerization-induced phase separation
نویسنده
چکیده
The morphology and dynamics of polymerization-induced phase separation in the initially homogeneous solution of a non-reactive component in reactive monomers are investigated by incorporating the reaction kinetics into the Cahn–Hilliard equation. Analytical results show that there is a reduction of the initial length scale in the early stage of phase separation. The reason is the increase of the molecule weight of emerging polymer, independent of the fact whether the system goes through the metastable region or not. The numerical results are in good agreement with theoretical prediction quite well. 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Polymerization of propylene in a minireactor: Effect of polymerization conditions on particle morphology
Gas phase polymerization of propylene was carried out in a semi-batch minireactor using a commercially supported Ziegler–Natta (ZN) catalyst. The influence of variables including monomer partial pressure, external electron donor, reaction temperature and time on the particle morphology and size distribution was investigated. Generally, more uniform fragmentation and particle densities were obta...

The polymerization-induced phase-separation process of polyethersulfone (PES)-modified epoxy systems was monitored in situ continuously on a single sample throughout the entire curing process by using optical microscopes, time-resolved light scattering (TRLS), scanning electronic microscopes (SEM), and a rheometry instrument. At specific PES content a viscoelastic transformation process of phas...

The microphase separation of hydrated perfluorinated sulfonic acid membrane Nafion was investigated using Dissipative Particle Dynamics (DPD). The nafion as a polymer was modelled by connecting coarse grained beads which corresponds to the hydrophobic backbone of polytetrafluoroethylene and perfluorinated side chains terminated by hydrophilic end particles of sulfonic acid groups [1, 2]. Each f...
متن کاملPhase separation of composite materials through simultaneous polymerization and crystallization
Composite materials have attracted much interest because of the emergent properties originating from the components. A variety of methods have been studied to control the morphology of composites based on noncrystalline polymers and crystalline materials. However, it is not easy to control complex morphologies, such as segregated sea-island structures, on the submicrometer scale. Polymerization...
متن کاملSynthesis of Silica/Polystyrene Nanocomposite Particles by Miniemulsion Polymerization
Miniemulsion polymerization is one of heterogeneous polymerization method that can be effectively used to synthesis of various novel organic-inorganic nanocomposite particles. This method can provide opportunity of good incorporation between the polymer and inorganic phases in the formed submicrometer-sized particles. In this article, we report preparation polystyrene/silica nanocomposite p...
